COLLECTOR'S PRICE GUIDE

Since 2002 we have been trawling eBay, the online auction site, to see what old video junk is worth -- or at least, what it's selling for :). We started collecting in 1993, and back then we were pretty much unique, but there are now many more collectors and enthusiasts so good machines go for high prices.

For each model I show the typical price and the range of prices seen recently, for a working machine. Obviously a faulty or broken machine would be worth less than this typical value, but since some machines are valuable whatever condition they're in, I also list a typical "residual" price. This is the average price paid recently for a machine which is not known to be working. Remember, these are auction prices, which tend to be higher than, say, a second-hand ad in your local paper. Also, auctions are unpredictable - as you can see from the ranges! SUMMARY It seems that the prices of some VCRs have been falling lately, particularly Betamax. Conversely, V2000 machines and CED players seem to be increasing in value at the moment.
